What is included in the fares?

With the exception of Caviar, French Champagne, external telephone calls & gratuities, everything else on board The Blue Train is included in the all-inclusive rate.

Do I have access to the Butler service?

Each coach has a Butler whose pleasure it will be to ensure that guests enjoy a memorable experience. Butlers are available 24 hours a day for the duration of the journey.

What is the check-in procedure?

Guests are requested to check-in one hour prior to departure. Check-in takes place in The Blue Train VIP lounges situated at Cape Town and Pretoria stations.

Are children welcome?

Reservations for children are on request only and at the discretion of The Blue Train. Children aged 2-years and younger are to share with parents or a responsible adult. No special meal menus are available for children. A strict children policy is applicable on board the train.

What are the dining arrangements?

All meals and room-service snacks are included in the rate. Should guests require a snack the Butler can be contacted. Lunch and dinner are usually served in two sittings, while breakfast is served for 3 hours.

Is the Blue Train suitable for wheelchair passengers?

One train set is compatible for disabled persons. Customised wheelchairs on board The Blue Train have been specifically designed to negotiate the train's corridors. A Butler will be on-hand to assist guests should they require. Please check with us which departure dates are wheelchair accessible.

What is the dress code?

In keeping with tradition it is a compulsory custom to dress formal for dinner to match the sheer elegance of The Blue Train. The dress code is smart casual during the day and formal for dinner (gentlemen are requested to at least wear a jacket or waistcoat / ladies elegant).

How much luggage can I bring?

It is advisable to pack an overnight case for the journey, as only a limited amount of luggage can be stored in suite. Butlers will store additional baggage in the luggage car. Although great care will be taken, it is recommended that luggage be insured.

Are there any health precautions?

If guests are travelling across the South African border, please consult a medical advisor about anti-malarial precautions and other necessary medication pertaining to the time of travel and destination.

The Blue Train has taken precautionary measures in order to prevent an outbreak of listeriosis to all guests on board. Severe prevention measures are in place to ensure the safety of guest is not compromised.

Is smoking allowed on board?

Smoking is only permitted in the Club Car. All Suites, the Lounge and Dining Cars are strictly smoke-free zones.

Can special dietary requirements be catered for?

Kindly specify any special dietary requirements at the time of booking. The Blue Train is happy to accommodate all culinary requests.
