"The only way to get around in London"

Easy to use, easy to top up, easy to see your balance. Why would you want to travel around London any other way. The longest we had to wait for a train was 7 minutes (on a weekend) and the Oyster card was trouble free the whole time. Excellent value with daily caps on fees and balance notices on exit from the train station gates so you know how much you have on the card at any time.

"Train chews through your credit, use the bus for most of your journeys if you can. Buy in London to avoid the expensive $15 postage fee"

Purchase of the Oyster Card from railplus was simple, although it would be beneficial if they sent to a PO Box address; because they don’t, I had to travel into Melbourne CBD to collect. Essentially (for me) a petty concern. What a visitor who purchases an Oyster card most likely doesn’t know is the most efficient way to use it. This has nothing at all to do with railplus, but is a failing of TfL.

I found it really convenient and very good value due to a daily cap on travel costs for inner city zones. Easily add more credit as required and get a refund of unused credit before you leave. The card doesn't expire, good to keep if you'll be returning in future.
